Project Engineer (m/f) for Mobile Data Management and Augmented Reality

Project Engineer (m/f/D) for Mobile Data Management and Augmented Reality

Augmensys was founded to make a vision come true: the introduction of Augmented Reality (AR) in the process industries.

We believe that AR can contribute a lot to solving some of the most significant problems in successfully taking advantage of industrial software in this area. This goes especially for the Oil&Gas- and chemical industry, since AR is able to present intelligent data directly to the user in the field, location-based and role-based. Smartphones, tablets and also Microsoft’s HoloLens form the basis for all our mobile solutions. Working with the most modern media and technologies is standard in our company.

Our customers are international and so are we. We strongly believe in the power of diversity and we are convinced, that global questions can best be answered by an international team.

We are a strong growing software company looking for personalities who share our visions and passions. For our location in Klagenfurt (or Linz), Austria we are looking for a

Inspection

✓   Executing regular, mandatory, daily operator inspection rounds

✓   Gathering operational data like manual local readings (level, pressure,..)

✓   Generating events/notifications including photos/videos in case of faults, malfunctions or open issues on site

While performing an inspection tour in an industrial plant, the maintenance worker is usually confronted with numerous technical, functional and ergonomic problems. But unhandy paper plans, safety deficits, insufficient or outdated information on heavy notebooks are now history, for good. Mobile devices, such as Smartphones and Tablets, will henceforth not only support him in the gathering, monitoring and revising of technical data, but will also become reliable guides on his tours through the plant.

For the maintainer, this means that his mobile device will direct him on his route, like a car navigation system, while supplying him with all relevant and significant plant data.

By aiming his Tablet at a point of interest at eye level, he can look through the devices’ camera at the real world. Thanks to its integrated sensors, the device will constantly identify its
absolute geographical position and elevation, as well its direction and orientation. The software continuously selects the relevant functional locations (Tags) automatically and cross-fades those into the live camera feed, composing an augmented view.

This information is permanently pre-qualified, considering user profiles or plant situations, which results in an amount of information that is tailored to the inspection tour of the current user.

Getting more information on a certain functional location is as easy as tapping a bubble on the display. In that very moment, the software queries the consolidation server for further data, which is bidirectionally connected to the relevant data sources in the company.

Depending on the content and quality of these sources, the user will be provided with more detailed specifications or data sheets, up to complex circuit diagrams and even complete P&ID’s.

Finally, the maintainer concludes his inspection round on the mobile device: his committed changes are transferred to the source systems via the consolidation server, and all necessary workflows are triggered automatically.

Shutdownmanagement

✓   Shutdown preparation (scoping of work packages)

✓   Mobile Shutdown-progress-reporting sent back to planning system

✓   Reporting of extra work (for contractor) incl. release workflow

✓   Documenting of cleaning activities (vessels, heat exchangers, …)

✓   Disconnecting, reconnecting, and commissioning of instruments

✓  Punch-List management

✓   Online progress information available via web-client feature

All the planning for the shutdown is done and now it’s time to execute the bulk of jobs in the plant – armed with a pen and lots of paper, work instructions are examined as to their necessity. Is a scaffolding needed to dismount the valve? Are there any special tools needed or is an isolation to be removed? In some situations even additional tasks, which weren’t foreseeable and therefore not predefined, have to be created and reported.

But basically, every task for every equipment was planned as good as possible, to get a complete work breakdown structure with ideally only few variables – this is all done to avoid endangering the restart of production, while not exceeding the planned costs.

With UBIK, this tightrope walk now becomes significantly easier. All equipment data and the predefined master-work packages are available on the mobile devices for employees and contractors. In the case of on-site inspections, work steps are removed or supplemented directly on the mobile device;  extra work can also be added directly on site.

Planning and execution play an equally important role during a shutdown. The simple handling in the field and the automatic feedback of the data to all relevant systems ensure that the planning was not in vain, but leads to a smooth process interlocked with the actual situation. The implementation of a “digital wallpaper” is thus possible and is supported by the online progress information. The results can be clearly presented in a scheduling tool. Before the system gets restarted, UBIK also carries out the recommissioning check and, if necessary, creates and reports “punches”.

After successful release of all equipment, the system can then be restarted efficiently and safely.

Commissioning

✓     Guiding/navigating engineers to relevant equipment/locations on site

✓     Executing commissioning checks (E&IC and mechanical) on site

✓     Generate punch-points incl. photo via mobile

✓     Clear punch list items when sorted out

✓     Commissioning report will be generated  automatically

During the commissioning phase of a plant, the involved staff has to deal with many details. Fulfilling all requirements of technical and statutory guidelines, while reporting this information in a correct and sustainable manner usually results in  a lot of paperwork.
For every piece of equipment there are many checks which take a potentially long time to complete. Single tags are tested against the features defined in check records, deviations are recorded in so called punch lists. All this paper data has to be transmitted back to the right IT system at a certain point in time – which naturally again means a lot of effort.

Paper = Time = Money

With UBIK, many intermediate steps are eliminated. It starts with finding the right piece of equipment, since UBIK navigates the user to the relevant point of interest. Once the worker is standing in front the desirable object, typical reports like check records are no longer documented on paper, but all the data can be directly entered on the mobile device. The advantage is that all the data is transferred back to the source systems at the push of a button or just in time, and is therefore always up to date – which enables i.e. progress tracking in an unprecedented quality.

UBIK = “just in time” = all data available in the moment of need
