In just a few days, UBIK 3 will be officially available to all our customers. This is a big milestone for us and in the following we want to summarize the most important changes that come with this version.
UBIK 3 will introduce a whole new data modelling experience (“SmartModelling”), that is now an integral part of the suite. SmartModelling will not only dramatically speed up the creation of UBIK Applications, but it will also allow for seamless data exchange across UBIK Servers and thus enable true global collaboration. To make the transition for UBIK engineers as smooth as possible, SmartModelling is fully compatible with the existing UBIK Studio and its data models, leaving the decision when to use it completely with the experts.
Some of our most important interface components have been greatly upgraded with UBIK 3.
The SAP Interface now connects more transactions than ever before and supports stateful communications for complex interface scenarios.
The OPC UA Interface was augmented with a UI for data point browsing, to simplify node addressing against large automation systems.
The COMOS Interface now has the ability to automatically create UBIK Proxy objects during import, which will reduce integration efforts significantly.
Universal Windows Platform
The UBIK Windows client was lifted to the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and this will enable the use of some very exciting features that come with Windows 10.
One of the most apparent changes is the new In-App Annotation feature, which makes use of the newest Microsoft inking techniques and creates a completely new experience when redlining documents of all kind.
The new Hotspotting features will change the way you work with legacy data. UBIK objects and properties can now be placed directly in existing documents, transforming the actual piece of paper into an intelligent user interface.
UBIK 3 also ships with In-App remote support functions, empowering users to request video and audio support directly from their current context of work.
Universal Client Foundation (UCF)
We extracted the UBIK Client Platform and made it completely portable across operating systems. This means that any App can from now on make use of the UBIK Platform with its powerful features across Client and Server. Due to this, our customers and any 3rd party can now create their own mobile UI, for the operating system of their choice (Android, iOS, Windows) and use as many features of the UBIK platform as needed.
Augmented & Mixed Reality
The UBIK Hololens App was greatly improved and now allows the handling of tasks and the creation and placement of notifications in the mixed reality world. Since UBIK 3, Hololens placement information is persisted and shared across devices through the UBIK platform, enabling all devices with the same data models and empowering the Hololens with all the core UBIK features like enterprise connectivity, offline data and delta-sync handling etc.
UBIK 3 reinvents robust marker tracking and combines it with the power of a UBIK data model. New algorithms merge optical tracking and sensor data for the most reliable identification of binary markers, but in UBIK tracking is not where it ends, but actually only where it starts: once tracked, the full flexibility of UBIK data models come into play and supplies the right content, ensuring true scalability for industrial use cases. If markers aren’t the right choice, UBIK 3 also integrates with the all new ARCore from Google, ARKit from Apple and the Microsoft Mixed Reality Platform, bringing these exciting new kits right into industrial applications.
